There are quite a few things I want to achieve in the future:

Work wise, Id like to find out more about how we understand other peoples thoughts and beliefs, and how that helps us to socialise with them. Id like to know more about why some autistic people find socialising hard, and what we can do to support them better. Id really like to help people understand what autism is, and help to get rid of some of the myths about autism (it isnt caused by vaccinations, or by eating cheese/milk).

Non-work wise, Id like to go to Japan.

Oh wow! I’m really early in my career and so I don’t think i’ve found my specific area yet. I’m still looking at different things in different areas. However, I would love to be heavily involved in policy making and treatment for issues such as alcohol or drug addiction and mental health. Whether this is working with the governmnet, Public Health England, or the World Health Organisation, I want to have some major impact in thise area. I’m just not entirely sure how or exactly what yet. Watch this space!

I want to make people happy and good at making decisions. This is actually why I’d like people to vote for me, because a lot of psychologists have already basically figured out how to do that, but I need to fund a youtube channel where I take the information that people have found and give it to everybody. Sometimes, a scientist discovers something and basically only tells other scientists. I want my research to make a difference, and I want to help the achievements of other scientists make a difference as well, so I’m taking all the information that I think could help people, and put it online so people can access information about mental health, critical thinking, motivation, impulse control, and all sorts of other practical psychological ideas and learn all they want by sitting on their computer. People will happily take in information sitting on computers. I might write a book too, but I suspect I’ll do more good with the youtube thing. I’ve attached an example of a video I’ve made so you can see that the video and audio quality need help, but the content is worth sharing.

Another thing I’d really like to do is figure out how public education can make people better at making decisions and living happy successful lives. A lot of students (myself included) complain that school doesn’t prepare you for the real world. You might notice that not all elections have been influenced by the most rational of voting decisions, and I’d like to help that too. There is some reason to believe that self-compassion (the tendency to treat yourself kindly no matter what) and learning about art and science can actually influence people to be better at making decisions, without forcing anyone to read lots of books about how to become better at making decisions, because I can’t imagine trying to convince everyone to do that. I really want to take big problems and find practical solutions, even if they just make a small difference.

Hi! 🙂 That’s a really nice question! I really hope to completely understand how the concepts are organized in our brain. In other words, which similarities among concepts allow their division in categories and where (that is, in which brain areas) the information about these categories is stored.
      All the best,
      Maria
