Psychologist, lecturer, father, husband and amateur musician.
I live with my family in the district of Leeds. I am married with 3 children. In my spare time I am an amateur musician and music promoter and I love to play live music. I enjoy playing volleyball and football and I am a keen cook, having previously worked in catering.
Forensic Psychologist and Lecturer
My work involves assessing and treating mentally disordered offenders in a low and medium secure hospital. I work with a range of other professionals in different disciplines. At York University, I lecture on the MSc In Applied Forensic Psychology.
My Typical Day
Report writing, coaching, individual and group sessions, admin, multiprofessional meetings.
My work is quite varied so a typical day might involve report writing (risk assessments or treatment reports etc), supervising the work of junior colleagues, engaging in MDT meetings to decide on patients’ care and treatment and running individual and group interventions. And of course, there is the day to day chats with professionals and clients, emails and admin.
What I'd do with the prize money
Fund an interactive drama workshop to help young people develop social skills and empathy.
I am in touch with an organisation called Geese Theatre who work with people at risk of offending and who create bespoke drama workshops to encourage social skills, perspective taking and empathy etc. If I won the money I would use it to fund the Geese Theatre to go to a school (maybe one chosen at random or who are perhaps most in need of such an intervention) and deliver some drama workshops to help encourage self development and interpersonal skills in young people.
